BEACHCOMBING AND INSHORE HIKES
Beachcombing is the best way to appreciate each days/nights landfall, and will do much to ward off the laziness that sometimes occurs on extended cruises. If more exercise/adventure is desired, try swimming ashore as well. This has the advantage of allowing you to embark on a real inshore hike without worrying about the shore launch being swept away at high tide and/or stolen. Waterproof sandals or reef shoes and a swim suit are generally all you need. Sunglasses, 30+ sunscreen, mosquito protection, and a pareo (wrap) or light towel can also be taken, and can usually survive the submersions required to get to shore. If venturing into a village, a light outerwear covering can also be taken, wrapped separately and carried on your head or packed in a waterproof bag.
